Philips Makes US$60M Investment in Bangalore R&D Center

Philips will be spending a total of US$60 million on its new R&D center in Bangalore, India, which will focus on chips for digital televisions and mobile phones. One of the projects in progress at the center is the development of digital television chips using 65nm technology. Until now Philips has already spent US$36 million on hiring and training personnel, and on equipment. The remaining US$24 million will be gradually invested in the coming years to expand the center's operations, and to increase the number of workers to 2,500 from the current 1,600.
